Special Issue on: “Management Control Systems and Service Innovation Design”Guest Editors: Dr. Yaakov Weber, Université du Québec, Canada
The special issue addresses the complex issues of management control systems in service operations. Service innovation is not an option for today’s industry. For the past decade, globalization and transformation of the industrial economy has produced vast new challenges for industry. Despite growing dominance of service sectors in most economies, there has been limited research to systematically examine the design and use of management control systems in service organizations.
The introduction of digitization has created new information services such as web-based banking and postal services. For many service industries, digitization as part of technological offerings and processes underpin the extent of value creation and basis of exchange. Management accounting information can be useful in reporting and monitoring value creation and to align changes in the types of cost incurred with revenues generated in the new digital environment. This special issue will address topics across new form of services that are being created in the new business environment in areas such as how strategy implementation, organizational designs, management systems, management and employee behavior influence corporate and managerial performance. In addition, research can explore how selected performance measurement systems and management control system in service operations are more or less effective in today’s dynamic business environment.
